For fans of the classic RPG, Earthbound, there's been a long-standing quest to create a fan-made version that improves upon the original game. Enter MaternalBound Redux, a completely rewritten script based on Tomato's Legends of Localization book. This revamped version not only fixes bugs and glitches but also adds a plethora of new features to enhance the overall gaming experience.

New Features in MaternalBound Redux

Compared to the original MaternalBound, this revised version boasts extended character tables for both the party and player's name prompts. Additionally, it includes photosensitive reduction hacks from subsequent releases of Earthbound (SNES Mini, Virtual Console) to ensure a seizure-safe experience. The game also features redesigned Greek letters used for PSI abilities, as well as animations for every ghost sprite.

Moreover, MaternalBound Redux introduces new custom diagonal sprites for all party members who join at one point or another. The game's 4 robot sprites are now unique, each with a specific object to differentiate them from one another. Sprites have been edited to match their official artwork (clay models) of some characters.

Improved Graphics and Sound

The game's overworld enemy sprites for every enemy found in the game give it a distinct Mother 3 vibe. The B button now opens up HP/PP boxes and cash-on-hand windows, while the X button brings up the main game menu (Goods, Equip, etc). The A/L button allows players to talk to people or check objects, eliminating the 'No problem here' message.

Button Remapping and Compatibility

MaternalBound Redux features full button remapping similar to other RPGs of the era, like FFVI. The game is fully hardware compatible, allowing it to be played in reproduction cartridges. Additionally, MSU-1 integration alongside the first PCM pack for Earthbound enhances the gaming experience.

Title Screen Improvements

The title screen has been revamped with no glitches or errors. No more 'TH' in the middle of the screen! The entire source code is available for those interested in exploring and modifying the game further.
